Proofreading and Copy-editing (US English)
A text that is free from typographical and grammatical errors is crucial for effective communication. A few small mistakes can subconsciously lead readers to question you're professionalism. (Did you catch that one? And did it change your opinion of this text?) High quality editing goes beyond spelling and grammar checking. I have over a decade of experience in writing for both academic and non-academic purposes, and have gained the skills to help you improve your argument structure, tone, word choice, and general style so that your point comes across effectively. At the same time, it is important to me to preserve the aspects of what makes your writing unique.
How it works
To accomplish this, I take a very personal approach. I want to hear from you about the topic of your writing and the main points you are making. I will then receive your document and begin the proofreading and editing process using track changes so that all of my work is reversible. There are inevitably portions of text a reader has difficulty understanding, and I mark these in comments. After going through the document, I will return it to you and ask that you review the changes I have suggested along with the questions I have asked in the comments. If you are fully satisfied and feel that you can take things from here, then I will send you an invoice. Otherwise I am more than happy to do a second run-through of your document, with the answers to my questions in mind.
Rates
For this service, I charge €0,02 per word. Thus for example:
1000 words - €20
6000 words - €120
10.000 words - €200
Expertise
I have done academic proofreading and editing in linguistics (historical and general), archaeology, theology, psychology, and economics. This has ranged from grant and admission applications to journal articles to theses (bachelor's, master's, doctoral) and parts of books and websites.

Translation
Communication is complex, and it can be difficult to capture the nuance of tone along with idioms and slang. A good translation does all of this. But people need translations for different reasons. Sometimes you just need to quickly understand what a portion of text is talking about for your own personal use. Other times you might be required to deliver a certified translation of legal documents.
The world of translation is being totally changed by programs like Google Translate and DeepL, services that can already provide accurate translations and whose accuracy continues to increase. If you need fast, informal translations of digital text that help you get the gist of what is being communicated, I recommend one of these websites. And if you need an official, certified translation for legal or government purposes, there are agencies that are accredited to provide this.
Wigman Schrift & Taal can provide you with translations for all other purposes. Are you a museum that would like your informational signs translated accurately and idiomatically for your international visitors? Are you a business who wants to ensure that your website presents your company image in a professional, error-free way? Or perhaps you have handwritten documents, or text in an ancient language, that cannot be run through an online translator.
Expertise
I have several years of experience translating between English and German. Any of the languages I list can be translated into either English or German. I have many years of experience with and have built up a library of resources to translate text from Latin, Ancient Greek, and Sanskrit. I can also translate from Dutch, and have been gaining experience with translating from French, Spanish, and Italian.
Rates
Rates for translation are more variable because they depend on the type of source document. In general, I charge €0,06 per source language word in the modern languages and €0,08 per source language word in the ancient languages (with a minimum job price of €5,00).

Content Writing (US English)
We live in a world of words, and communicating your message effectively and in native-sounding English is crucial to representing your business or organization in a professional, trustworthy way. Wigman Schrift & Taal can help you write content for your specific purposes, whether that be website text, a blog post, the script of a video or podcast, informational documents, or anything of that nature.
How it works
Content writing requires a personal, collaborative approach. I need to hear about your expectations before I can begin. If you request a job from me, we will exchange communication about the topic of the content, the length you expect, the intended audience of the product, as well as the tone of the message you would like to have produced. Once I understand your expectations, I will briefly do some research on the topic to make sure it is something that I have the knowledge and experience to produce. Considering all of this, I will get back to you with a quote, and we can decide on a delivery date that works for you. Once you have received the content from me, I will gladly adjust it to your wishes if you have further requests (up to two rounds included at no extra charge).
Rates
My rates for content writing reflect the research time that goes into writing accurate, authoritative content and are based on the complexity of the content. For the majority of cases, I charge a series of fixed fees based on wordcount:
Short (600-1.500 words or ca. 1-2 pages) - €180
Medium (1.600-3.500 words or up to 5 pages) - €420
Long (3.600-7.000 words or up to 10 pages) - €875
Longer than 7.100 words or 10 pages - €50 per 200 words

I have over a decade of experience in academic writing in the social sciences/humanities (especially in linguistics, history, and archaeology). Beside academic writing, I am passionate about science communication for a broader public. I have also collaborated on more creative projects.
